Appointment prep
What to ask your prescriber
A TRT appointment lasts fifteen minutes. This page walks through it stage by stage — tick the questions that fit your situation, and copy your personal list at the end.
1
Before the appointment
The questions you ask yourself, so the visit starts with facts
Write down your protocol (medication, dose, frequency, how long unchanged), your symptom pattern relative to your dose schedule, and bring your last two lab reports with draw timing noted.
2
Describing the problem
Opening the conversation so it goes somewhere
Lead with the pattern, not the theory: when the symptom hits relative to your dose, whether it was ever better, and what's changed in your life alongside it.
3
Getting the right labs
The tests that separate one cause from another
Draw timing changes what numbers mean. Agree on when you'll be drawn relative to your dose, and keep it consistent between visits.
4
Deciding on changes
If the labs point somewhere, agree on one move at a time
Good protocols change a single variable, then re-test once levels stabilize. If the plan changes two things at once, ask how you'll know which one worked.
5
Before you leave
Lock in the follow-up so the change is measurable
The appointment isn't done until you know what happens next and when. These two questions close the loop.
These are conversation starters, not a script — your prescriber may reorder, add, or rule out based on your history. What matters is leaving with a plan and a re-test date. Never adjust dose or frequency on your own between visits.
